Willemstad Curacao

A visit to Willemstad, Curaçao, offers a vibrant experience centered on its colorful Dutch colonial architecture, historical sites, and lively cultural scene.

Key attractions include the Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge, which connects the Punda and Otrobanda neighborhoods, districts with their distinctive murals and architecture, and the Kura Hulanda Museum, which explores the transatlantic slave trade. Usually, we would enjoy shopping, but on Sundays, stores are closed.

Pastel-hued buildings decorate the waterfront of this very Dutch Caribbean island. A World Heritage site, the Punda district preserves hundreds of buildings as national monuments, including Fort Amsterdam, the Governor’s Palace, Mikve Israel-Emanuel Synagogue, one of the first synagogues in the New World.

Grenada

The St. George's, Grenada cruise port is located in the capital city and features the Melville Street Cruise Terminal on the southwestern coast, near the historic Carenage harbor.

We could easily access the city's shops, museums, and historic sites like Fort George on foot.

From the moment we arrived, we were not only charmed by a colorful mix of colonial architecture set on lush vegetation, but also we were enchanted by the smell of cinnamon and nutmeg. We visited the Market Square and had great fun choosing all types of fresh spices. I look forward to cooking with them once back home.

Bonaire - vow - the city of Kralendijk has doubled in size since I visited last. Becoming a cruise stop has really helped the economy. The town is just lovely, with a very big Netherland influence.

With a dazzling array of fish and coral reefs and spectacularly clear water, Bonaire offers some of the best dive spots in the Caribbean.

Aruba

Day 2 in Cartagena Colombia

During our visit to the old city of Cartagena, we tasted different street foods. Mostly made with ground corn. Delicious and enticing aromas. We also ate some of their fruit. So sweet and tasty. We strolled through leafy plazas named for heroes such as Simon Bolivar, who liberated Latin America from Spanish rule. We had some free time to just roam, and we felt very safe.

The only run-in we had was with a parrot who took a liking to my husband's hat.

Cartagena Colombia

We visited the old town, ever so charming. A real surprise.

It was founded in 1533 and is now a UNESCO site.

Colon Panama Canal

Watching the fascinating operation of the Gatun locks in the Panama Canal was amazing. The huge oil tankers and container ships cruise through the canals with unbelievable precision. It was truly awe-inspiring.

Later, we explored the town of Porto Belo. It was once the busiest city in the New World. We had a spectacular view of the new canal locks from an observatory platform.

The town has a long history of pirate attacks, and this is where Sir Francis Drake died in 1596. Christopher Columbus named Porto Belo, meaning “beautiful harbor,” while visiting the area in 1502.

Our stop in Roatan Honduras

Today we were booked to take an exhilarating walk through a jungle tree canopy, much of it on suspension bridges. We hoped to observe creatures such as parrots and monkeys at their level, high in the trees. However, it turned out to be a rainy day and the animals did like us, they hid from the downpour, so we did not get to see any of them.

The walk was through a dense green forest.

Belize

Belize is beautiful. Many Canadians and Americans stay here over the winter. The views are super. Please see some of the pictures below.

Today we cruised into a protected lagoon inhabited by West Indian manatees. A naturalist explained animal behaviors and the features of the beautiful flora.

We learned how the coastal mangroves provide breeding grounds for fish and birds.

We saw so many different birds, iguanas, and starfish.

Crete’s fertile soil and towering peaks witnessed the rise of one of the earliest recorded civilizations on earth, the Minoan, which flourished 3-4,000 years ago.

Knossos was the ancient court of the legendary King Minos. Excavations on these Bronze Age sites were begun by the English archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans and his team in 1893 and lasted 35 years.

Entering the Great Palace through the West Court, you can easily see why the legend of the labyrinth grew up here. It takes about one and a half hours to explore all the parts of this amazing Palace.

During this walking tour, you’ll admire the superb Royal Quarters, the Throne room with an Antechamber and main throne, and the Queen’s Quarters whose wall above the entrance door is decorated with a copy of the famous dolphin frescos.

Apart from the Royal Palace, there are also other buildings included in the site, such as the Small Palace, the House of the High Priest and the Caravanserai.

Your Ensemble Experience then continues to Arolithos to experience a traditional Cretan village.

In this village, you’ll see how people used to live and the atmosphere of times gone by. There is a museum in the village, which hosts the equipment people used in their numerous tasks during the day.

Walking through the narrow, colorful alleys of the village, you’ll reach the main square where, under the shade of a plane tree, you can enjoy a Cretan lunch and the local spirit raki. Afterwards, you may stroll around the narrow streets of Arolithos and get acquainted with the typical life and customs of a Cretan village.

Arranging for two teams and a total of 80 people to travel together for two weeks is no easy task and yet the trip went without a glitch; the games were fair, the hotels were very comfortable and clean, and the entire journey was a tremendous experience for all.
